A BOLD AND FEATHERY FOYER REVEAL
Well here it is guys – the front foyer that we’ve been working on for what feels like forever! It’s hard to believe such a small space could take so long to complete, but after nearly three months it’s finally finished – woo hoo!
It all started with this eye-catching peackcock-print wallpaper from Wallpaper Direct. It’s their Sana paper in Navy from the Albany line. This paper comes in 4 different colour ways and I’m also smitten with the pink version – see it here. I worked with the brand a few years back on our townhouse powder room (READ HERE), so when I saw this vibrant new design I knew it needed to be somewhere in our new home. We decided to put it in the front foyer to create a sort of jewelry box feel, and really make a statement when stepping into the house. And that it certainly does :)
We had the wallpaper installed by Kathleen Kitchen Interiors – and am I ever grateful for all of her hard work. The paper was somewhat tricky to work with at times, but she managed to wrap it around all of the bulkheads, match up the prints like the pro, and deliver a finished product that was flawless. After seeing how labour intensive traditional paste-the-wall wallpaper is – I’ll keep my skill level to the removable paper kind – and leave this to the pro’s!
Since this wallpaper is so ultra-feminine, I decided to bring in contrasting lighting that was contemporary and fresh – and of course I turned to my favourite Canadian lighting company Dainolite. We chose the Halogen Pendant in Gold (seriously how cute is this fixture?), and paired it with this Table Lamp with Concrete Base also from Dainolite. I’m obsessed with both of these pieces and love the modern vibes they bring to the space.
To avoid the foyer from feeling too dark (hello navy ceiling and walls), we painted the interior of the front door a light powder blue that just ever-so-sightly picks up the blue in the wallpaper. I like the contrast of dark and light, and with our grey floors the space still feels very airy and bright.
We decided to keep decor very minimal here and didn’t want to overdue it with all of the pattern and colour already happening in the space. A few knick knacks placed on this vintage dresser that keeps moving with us from one of our first condos to now our third house in Oakville – and the space was wrapped up! What do you guys think? Also have to make mention of this stunner of an ottoman I found at Walmart – can you believe it? I would have loved to find two – so definitely keeping my eyes open for a second to show up in store sometime soon.
Another space down and many more to go… Stay tuned for a handful of exciting new home projects we having coming up before the end of year!
