APRIL BEAUTY MUSINGS
Anyone else obsessed with pink flowers lately? It must be the fact that the first signs of Spring are popping up all around us and we feel a need to bring the outdoors in. I’ve been keeping a steady supply of pink blooms around the house and continue to keep it up for as long as I can.
Continuing from last month’s first beauty series post, today I’m sharing some beauty products and makeup that I’ve been loving these past few weeks.
Puffy eyes in the morning have been a serious problem for me lately (not partying I promise), so this little stick of Goat Milk De-Puffing Eye Balm from Kate Someville has been a lifesaver. Without it there is some serious daily baggage going on in the eye department, but by just applying a swipe of the balm under both eyes when I first wake up, the delicate skin calms down and is ready for makeup application. The Goat’s Milks is so gentle and soothing and works like magic.
This Hoola Bronzing & Contouring brush from Benefit Cosmetics has been in such constant use that it’s become part of my vanity decor and never leaves my counter (it’s also so pretty it should be on display, am I right?). Not only is it great for apply bronzer and contouring like a pro, I also use it to blend my blush into my bronzer so a well-blended face is the final result, instead of any harsh or visible lines.
I’m also in love with this slightly pinkish Benefit Dandelion finishing powder. It’s great on my pale skin and brightens my face at the same time as it gets rid of shine. I use it at the very end of my makeup application on my forehead, chin and sides of my nose.
OK these Tarte Cosmetics Palettes from the Rainforest of the Sea Collection are a must-have! Not only are the packages just too beautiful for words, the actual products inside are everything you need for that perfect flawless finish. First, the Color Correcting Palette has all the colours you need to get rid of red spots, dark spots and much more. And best of all, it comes with a number-coded guide so you know exactly which colour to use and where. Next, onto the Eyeshadow Palette which I have been using daily since I got it. With a full range of neutral and brown shades, these colours will work on pretty much anyone and help you to achieve a blendable, naturally-sculpted eye. Oh and best of all, these products are Paraben and Phthalates Free!
Now I don’t use blue mascara on a daily basis, but how fun is a little colour where you would least expect it? I find when I wear this, people try to figure out what’s different, ye can’t quite put their finger on it. If you’re already a fan of the Benefit They’re Real Mascara, then you know how great this formula is. And why not add a little pop of colour now that it’s Springtime?
By now you know I’m a serious fan of Benefit Cosmetics, and this Watt’s Up Cream to Powder Highlighter is no exception. Seriously the best highlighter I’ve used and I apply it daily to the bridge of nose, upper lip (just a dab) and to the apples of my cheeks. Glide it on, rub it in, and your entire look is transformed into luminescent and glowing!
While I normally stick to light pinks and neutral colours on my nails, every once in a while I like to add a little sparkle here or there just for fun. I’ll never do all my nails in the sparkle polish, but coating just the rings fingers in a few coats of the shimmer is just right. This Nicole by OPI polish in Twist of Fate is the perfect shade of gold and when you build the coats, it actually fully covers your nail in gold sparkles. And then this pretty shade of lilac sparkle polish is totally girly and a great pastel for Spring. The brand Mrs. P’s Potion is hand-mixed, cruelty-free, and does not contain the “big 5” harmful chemicals. And best of all, it’s a home-grown brand and made in Alberta.
This Eau De Parfum spray by Juicy Couture is very floral and while I use it sparingly, when I want a special fragrance, apart from my everyday scent, this is the one I reach for. It smells sweet and sexy all at the same time and is a great scent for a night out on the town.
If you are looking for a lipcolour that is really going to POP, then this Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Creme in 248 Willful is the one you need ASAP. It looks like a purple/pink in the tube and comes out with such a vibrant, almost neon (but good neon) hue. It’s a real statement lipstick so be sure to go easy on the eye makeup when you’re wearing it, because it speaks for itself and doesn’t need anything else to give your look that total WOW factor.
