September 5^th, 2017 marks a milestone over at our house as it will be my son’s first day of JK! We’ve all been eagerly waiting for this day to come, but as the weeks close in I’m starting to feel sad and anxious that our days together are coming to an end. I never thought I would be the mom to cry on the first day of school, but I’m starting to change my tune as the day quickly approaches – and I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m the one balling my eyes out at the classroom door.

As the anxiety builds about letting my son go, at least we have nothing to worry about when it comes to what he’ll be wearing on the first day of school (which was always my biggest concern as a kid). We recently did a little one-stop shopping trip at Walmart and picked up some great pieces for the new school year. While it would have been easier if I just did the shopping all on my own (and a lot quicker), I decided to bring my pre-kindergartener along so that he could select the pieces that he loved and would actually want to wear. I find this is the key to smart buying when it comes to shopping for kids – let them pick their clothes (with a little help and suggestion from you) and they’ll be reaching for these items before anything else!

The selection of quality layering tees and sweaters at Walmart were fantastic and we were able to pick out this cool graphic tee ($6) that will be great on its own or perfect under this cozy grey hoodie ($10). The perfect pair of boys’ jeans is hard to come by, so the adjustable waist on this George brand pair ($11.97) is ideal to adjust to his growing size, and I love the slim and not too skinny leg (which is also way more comfy for him). And can we talk about how cool this bomber jacket ($29.97) is for a second? It also comes in olive green (which we may need to pick up), and is just too stylish for words!
