LITTLE BIG BOY ROOM REVEAL
If you’ve been following along on social lately, you’ll have noticed that our family recently made a move. Although we didn’t move out of our neighborhood, we’ve downsized for a little while into a cute three story townhouse, and I have to say I’m absolutely loving how cozy it is! With not a lot of space to work with, we’ve been forced to all be extra tidy, put things away as soon as we’re done with them, and get rid of a lot of unnecessary clutter – and I’m happy to report it’s been a success so far!
We were fortunate enough to take possession of the townhome a month before the closing date of the house we were living in so that we could do a few necessary updates and have it all set for when we actually moved in! While major renovations were not part of our plan, we did update a few essentials such as installing new blinds, having the carpets cleaned, and getting the whole house completely repainted.
Nothing makes a new house feel like your own than painting it in your own palette, so when Canadian Tire challenged us to complete an interior DIY project with their line of PREMIER INFINITY paint, it couldn’t have come at a better time. We decided to take on my sons bedroom for the project, and while I’m usually drawn to cool shades of grey, kids rooms allow for a bit more whimsy and that’s exactly what we wanted to achieve here! His room is actually the largest in the house so we had plenty of space to be creative. I knew I wanted a colour that would really pack a punch and of course one that he would love as well! After going back and forth through the amazing range of options that PREMIER paint offers, I finally decided on ‘French Mint PR16A28’ and couldn’t be happier with the choice.
My design theme for the space was something bright and airy with one bold colour that would give the rooms lots of personality – and PREMIER INFINITY paint in French Mint was exactly that bright punch we needed! We enlisted the help of my cousin (since you don’t want to see how terrible I paint walls), and slowly my vision came to life. We loved how saturated the colour was and how easy it was to apply smooth coats. The coverage was outstanding, and in just a couple hours we turned boring beige walls into something completely new and exciting! In fact, we loved using PREMIER INFINITY paint so much that we used it to paint our entire house and are thrilled with the results! (Stay tuned for more room reveals from the rest of our house coming soon.)
Now with the walls painted, I was ready to get into my favourite part of any room design – decorating! Like I mentioned above, I wanted my son’s room to be fun and whimsy, but also fresh and crisp, so I kept all design elements pretty neutral, throwing in just a few extra punches of mint green and a hint of orange.
Since this house only has three bedrooms, we needed my sons room to double as the guest room for whenever grandma and grandpa or other guests come to visit. Instead of using his toddler bed from our last house (you can see his previous room design here), we opted for a double bed that would comfortably sleep guests and one that he can use well into his teen years. His dresser, nightstand, and teepee all came from our last house, and couldn’t have fit into this design any better.
For his bedding, I had in mind an all-white duvet cover with a fun, playful quilt layered on top, but when I spotted this mint and white checked comforter set – it was love at first sight. I mean, could it have matched the PREMIER INFINITY paint in French Mint any better? So of course I scooped it up and also found the perfect vibrant throw blanket for a real punch of colour. I layered it on top of all white sheets, and then just had to throw in these fun pillow cases for that touch of whimsy!
Decor elements were brought to life with the cutest panda bear wall hanging, layered rugs, and a huge pouf that can double as a seat or a table. My talented friend made the cutest little bunting for us to wrap around the panda wall hanging and I’m loving how cute they look together. Plenty of baskets of all shapes and sizes were brought in for the ultimate toy storage. Since this house doesn’t have a specific place for us to keep all of the kids toys, fun and functional storage solutions were very necessary and being able to fit a huge chunk of them into this room was a real bonus!
We also added in a huge assortment of adorable star wall decals to dress up the longest wall in the room. I love how we mixed small and large sized stars for a somewhat realistic take on a starry night.
Now that the space is totally finished, I’m breathing such a sigh of relief and am actually in disbelief we pulled it together so quickly! From concept to completion we had this room done in just under one month, and most importantly our little guy is loving every second in his new room. Since moving can have a big effect on little ones, making them feel as comfortable as possible in their new surroundings is absolutely necessary, and I’m so happy we made a success of it for my favourite little man!
