I am so excited to finally reveal our newborn photo shoot with Memories By Marie. After being so pleased with her work from Massimo’s session two and a half years ago (see his newborn photos in Oct 15’s post), we knew that we had to visit her again for Gemma’s baby photos and let me say – she did not disappoint! How precious are these images? I really can’t get enough of them.

Successful newborn photos are taken in the very short window of the first 10 days of a baby’s life. Not to say that they can’t be taken later than this, but this is the ideal time frame to mold their bodies into cute positions, capture their precious expressions, and keep crying and fussing to a minimum. The photographer achieves these successful shots by keeping the room very warm and making sure that the baby has a full tummy of milk. And then voila – the most adorable pics of your baby that you will ever have. However…don’t be fooled by this perfect little baby and her modelling skills. In between each shot, plenty of pee and poop had to be wiped, blankets needed to be scrubbed and hands had to be washed….definitely not as pretty as it appears!!

Despite all the drama in-between the photos, Burlington-based photographer Marie Vanderweide-Murray was so patient and calm, always knowing when we needed to take a break and give baby the attention she needed to be able to continue the shoot. Her kindness, pleasant attitude and warm smile made her such a pleasure to work with. Working with babies is very stop and go, but it was such a breath of fresh-air working with Marie inside her beautiful home-based studio. The top floor of the house has been transformed into an 1100 Sq.Ft natural-light studio with big, bright windows all around, letting in the perfect lighting to capture sharp and crisp images. She has charming furniture and props, the most beautiful knitted blankets and ethereal-like linens to enhance precious moments like these.
