WHERE TO STAY IN MEXICO CITY
*This post is in partnership with Marriott Hotels
While Mexico City hadn’t been on our bucket list for very long, after hearing so many good things about it over the last couple months, it quickly gained rank as somewhere affordable, easily accessible, and the perfect destination for an exciting getaway! And after researching the world-class foodie scene in the city – it was a no brainer that this is where we wanted out next weekend adventure to be.
When we told our friends and family about our upcoming trip, the recommendations started coming in from some who has visited numerous times, friends who once lived there for a month, and a fellow Toronto-based blogger who’s recent trip really inspired me to look more into this destination!
Stay tuned for my complete travel guide to Mexico City coming up in the next few weeks, but today I’m excited to be sharing a little more about where we called home for our 4 nights in CDMX (Ciudad de México ).

Whenever we travel somewhere new – and a little out of our comfort zone – it’s always nice to have something familiar to fall back on in our new surroundings. On this trip it came in the form of our stay at the JW Marriott Mexico City. The Marriott brand of hotels and resorts is nothing new to us as it’s our definite go-to when traveling to anywhere in the world, and I couldn’t have been more excited to partner with them for our weekend getaway to CDMX.
The hotel arranged our transfer from the airport with a car service and I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the city for the first time. Our driver met us at Arrivals and happily accommodated us when we wanted to visit the Telcel booth to pick up a SIM card before heading off to the hotel. Navigating pickup points with Uber could have been a bit challenging when you first arrive in the city, so the car service certainly eased us into it comfortably.
The JW Marriott Mexico City is located in the urban, upscale neighborhood of Polanco – often thought of as the Beverly Hills of Mexico City. Here you’ll find high-end shopping, world-class restaurants, luxury brand hotels, and it’s also where the city’s elite, celebrities, and businessmen call home.
When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by the friendliest staff we have ever encountered at a Marriott property. Don’t get me wrong – the level of service at any Marriott is second to none – but this was something special. Coming and going from the hotel we were greeted by friendly and courteous staff, always with the biggest smile on their faces. It’s truly the little things that made a hotel stay memorable!
We were upgraded to a corner suite and the view from our 14th floor room was nothing short of spectacular. We looked out onto Chapultepec Park (one of the world’s largest city parks) and home to Chapultepec Castle – North America’s only royal castle.
In addition to the view outside, the inside of our suite had all the little luxuries you would expect from a JW Marriott property and everything we needed for our home away from home. I particularly loved the bathroom and it’s massive walk-in shower – floor to ceiling marble gets me every time! And with floor to ceiling windows in the bathroom and at both corners of our room, we felt like we were a living part of the landscape.
Again, it’s always the little touches that make a hotel stay that much more memorable, and this property did not disappoint. Every evening at turn-down service the housekeeping staff would leave chocolates on our pillows and slippers beside the bed, creating the perfect oasis to retreat to after a busy day touring the city. And after settling into our room and unpacking upon arrival, we received a welcome tray of sparkling wine and the most delicious truffles to enjoy – and we most certainly did!

As Elite Marriott reward members, we enjoyed access to the club lounge which hosted us for breakfast, evening wine and hors d’oeuvres, and 24-hr access to snacks and drinks. This amenity really takes your stay to the next level and gives you with all the comforts of home.
For recreation, and as a wonderful reprieve away from the hustle and bustle of the major metropolis outside, the pool and fitness area at our hotel was top notch. While the weather was pretty cool at this time of year (August is their rainy season), the heated indoor/outdoor pool made up for any lack of warmth and was a great spot for a morning dip and a few laps. The Spa area had a steam-room, sauna, and friendly staff on hand to help out with anything you may need.

And after a long day exploring CDMX, nothing is more rewarding than finding a candy bar set up in the lobby just for hotel guests. A cup of gummy bears always hits the spot and pairs really well with a bottle of bubbly – something we enjoyed every day of our stay!

If you’re heading to Mexico City any time soon (which I really think you should), I would highly recommend calling the JW Marriott Mexico City your home away from home. This luxury property caters to all of your needs and exceeds any and all of your expectations. It truly is an oasis in the middle of the largest city in the Western Hemisphere!
